The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), represented by the Bali Regional Command (Kodam IX/Udayana), has embarked on an ambitious project to construct 24 bridges in Bali and the eastern and western Nusa Tenggara regions. This initiative is part of efforts to enhance infrastructure in remote areas. The project was inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremony in Lokabaks, located in the Buleleng district, last Monday.
Major General Taufiq Hanafi, the commander of the armed forces in the region, indicated that this project is part of the third and fourth phases of a plan to build 376 bridges across Indonesia, aimed at improving access to essential services and boosting economic development in rural areas.

The new bridges will be distributed across three regions, with 12 bridges to be built in eastern Nusa Tenggara, 9 bridges in western Nusa Tenggara, and 3 bridges in Bali. The newly inaugurated Lokabaks bridge is vital for the local community as it connects the villages of Lokabaks and Ringdikit and serves as the main access point to a primary school in the area.
This bridge's construction was proposed back in 2019, but the project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the proposal was reintroduced in 2023 and received approval following a directive from the Indonesian president to assess pedestrian bridges by 2025.
