Luxury airline beOnd has announced its plans to launch new routes connecting the capitals of the United Kingdom and France, London and Paris, to the Maldives, starting in December 2026. This move aims to meet the needs of the luxury tourism market, as the airline will offer first-class flights only, distinguishing itself from many other foreign airlines operating in the region.
beOnd will operate three weekly flights from Heathrow Airport in London and Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris to Malé International Airport. These flights are scheduled to be overnight in both directions and will utilize Airbus A321 aircraft. However, the flights will not be direct, as they will include a stop for refueling and maintenance at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai.
Details of the New Routes
These new routes come as an addition to beOnd's existing network that connects the Maldives to several other European cities such as Munich, Zurich, and Milan. The airline also plans to increase the frequency of flights on some of these European routes, expanding flights to Munich from two weekly to four, while increasing flights to Zurich from two to five weekly, starting mid-December 2026.
beOnd is considered the first pure luxury airline, currently operating only two aircraft, the Airbus A321 and Airbus A319. The airline is distinguished by offering seats that convert into beds in all aircraft seats, in addition to premium service and a menu designed by world-class chefs inspired by flavors from various destinations.
Background & Context
Founded at a time when the luxury aviation sector is experiencing significant growth, beOnd focuses on providing exclusive services, with a maximum capacity of just 68 passengers per flight, ensuring a comfortable and private travel experience. The aircraft feature seat designs by Ferrari, with luxurious Italian leather fittings.
beOnd aims to offer a comprehensive travel experience, with tickets including private transfer services to and from the airport. The airline also provides its passengers with Beats headphones and Apple VR headsets, along with iPad Pro devices instead of traditional screens for in-flight entertainment.
Impact & Consequences
This move by beOnd is seen as a response to the increasing demand for luxury travel, especially to destinations like the Maldives, which is considered one of the top tourist spots in the world. These new flights are expected to boost tourism in the Maldives, benefiting the local economy.
This initiative may also open the door for other airlines to offer similar services, increasing competition in the luxury aviation market. As more travelers seek unique travel experiences, there may be a shift in how aviation services are provided.
Regional Significance
beOnd is based in Dubai, reflecting the city's importance as a major hub for tourism and aviation in the region. These new routes may enhance connections between Arab countries and Europe, providing convenient travel options for Arab travelers wishing to visit the Maldives.
With the trend toward luxury tourism, Arab airlines may benefit from this trend by developing their services to meet the needs of wealthy travelers. Additionally, the increase in flights between European capitals and the Maldives could enhance Arab tourism to this tropical destination.
