Engineer Randa El-Manshawi, the Minister of Housing and Utilities, convened a meeting to assess the execution status of several projects being carried out by the Central Authority for Urban Development in Alexandria, with the presence of Major General Osama El-Ganzouri, the head of the authority, and ministry officials.
The Minister of Housing highlighted the significance of the projects executed by the Central Authority for Urban Development, particularly the axes and roads projects in Alexandria. These initiatives play a crucial role in reducing pressure on existing traffic axes, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and connecting the city with new urban extensions to the east and west, thereby accelerating urban development rates.
Details of the Meeting
The meeting discussed the implementation status of the Major General Omar Suleiman Axis, known as the Western Circular Arch of Alexandria, which connects the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road with Borg El Arab International Airport, Borg El Arab City, and the North Coast, extending over a length of 20 km and featuring 6 traffic lanes in each direction, along with a central island. The axis begins at kilometer 40 on the Alexandria/Cairo Desert Road, passing through Borg El Arab International Airport, then the Borg El Arab industrial area, and reaching the coastal international road.
The project aims to facilitate the movement of vehicles of all types to and from Borg El Arab International Airport, the North Coast, and developmental areas (industrial, logistical, and agricultural) in and around Borg El Arab directly to the desert road, and from there to the regional road network across the republic. The project has been divided into three sectors executed in parallel, which contributes to accelerating completion rates.
The Minister of Housing also reviewed the implementation status of the project for the First Lieutenant General/Suleiman Ezzat Bridge (Sadat Axis 45) with the coastal international road. This includes the construction of a two-level bridge to connect Sadat Street (45) with the coastal international road at its intersection with Mustafa Kamel Street, as part of the development plan for the eastern Alexandria area.
Sadat Street is one of the most important traffic axes in Alexandria, linking the city to the coastal international road and the agricultural road at its intersection with Mustafa Kamel Street and the Mahmoudiya Axis. It serves as the main entrance to eastern Alexandria and the Corniche road. The bridge spans approximately 2.6 km and includes 3 traffic lanes in each direction for each level; the first level connects Sadat Street towards the coastal international road, while the upper level connects the coastal international road to Sadat Street, with a connection towards the Clock Square, which helps accommodate increasing traffic volumes and reduce travel times between the agricultural road and the coastal international road south of Alexandria and its eastern and western regions, in addition to maximizing the benefits of the Sadat Tunnel and Bridges for vehicles and pedestrians at the intersection of Mohamed Anwar Sadat Street with the Corniche road.
Furthermore, Engineer Randa El-Manshawi monitored the implementation status of the first phase of the Mohamed Naguib Axis development project, which includes constructing a bridge at the intersection of the axis above Gamal Abdel Nasser Road and linking the existing tunnels south of Abu Qir. The project aims to establish a transverse traffic axis connecting the main longitudinal roads, namely: the Corniche road, Gamal Abdel Nasser Street, Mustafa Kamel Street, Mahmoudiya Axis, Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road, the Ring Road, Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, and the coastal international road, alongside implementing an alternative road on Suez Canal Street to connect the Corniche to the east of Alexandria.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Housing emphasized the necessity of full adherence to the specified timelines for completing various projects, while continuing coordination with relevant authorities to overcome any obstacles that may arise during implementation, and working around the clock to finalize the projects according to the highest quality standards.
