Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Ali Abadi revealed today, Sunday, the extensive damage inflicted on the country’s vital water and energy infrastructure due to the military attacks launched by the United States and Israel since the beginning of the war on February 28.
In statements to the governmental news agency ISNA, Abadi explained that these attacks, characterized by terrorist operations and cyberattacks, resulted in the destruction of many facilities for water transport and treatment, in addition to damage to parts of critical water supply networks. He confirmed that repair efforts are currently underway to rehabilitate these facilities.
In a related context, the US Central Command shared on its official account on the platform X images documenting the destruction of an Iranian ballistic missile assembly facility, stating that this facility was used to produce short- and medium-range missiles. The published images showed a stark contrast between the facility's condition before and after the destruction, reflecting the US focus on targeting Iranian military capabilities.
In the backdrop of these events, the Israeli army announced it had conducted precise airstrikes in central Tehran, just hours after two Iranian missiles fell in southern Israel, escalating tensions in the region. In an official statement, the Israeli army described these operations as necessary against what it referred to as the Iranian terrorist regime.
These escalations come amid previous threats from US President Donald Trump, who threatened to strike Iranian power stations if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened to maritime navigation. Iran responded to these threats by confirming its readiness to target energy infrastructure in the region, indicating a significant escalation in security tensions.
On another front, an Israeli army spokesperson noted that Iran has launched over 400 ballistic missiles at Israeli territories since the beginning of the war, and 92% of those missiles have been intercepted, reflecting the effectiveness of Israeli defenses.
Israeli officials also confirmed that 15 individuals were injured in some rocket strikes on central Israel, including Tel Aviv. The Israeli ambulance service reported that the injured were transported to hospitals, with many of them in stable condition.
In another development, an Israeli army spokesperson stated that forces have eliminated a prominent official involved in funding Hamas in Lebanon, adding that this step is part of a series of pressures and military operations against groups that Israel considers terrorist organizations.
In the military arena, intense clashes have been reported between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon, as the fighting has reached levels of direct engagement, reflecting the complexity of the situation in southern Lebanon and its surroundings.
The potential repercussions of this military escalation suggest that it could lead to greater tensions between Iran and Israel and exacerbate security conditions in the region overall. At the same time, the continuation of attacks underscores the impact on vital infrastructure supporting the lives of millions of Iraqis, necessitating an urgent international response.
Analyses indicate that the situation calls for a pause and consideration of how to secure stability in the region and address the humanitarian issues arising from these conflicts.
