The Drug Enforcement Directorate of Metro Jaya Police in Indonesia has stated that there is a need for in-depth discussions regarding the proposal to ban e-cigarettes, also known as vapes. Colonel Ahmad David confirmed that the topic is still under study and no final decisions have been made yet.
During a meeting with the Legal Affairs Committee in the Indonesian Parliament, David pointed out that the proposal has not yet progressed and was recently raised in the context of discussions about amending drug laws. This proposal comes at a time when concerns are increasing regarding the spread of e-cigarettes and their impact on public health.

Earlier, the head of the National Narcotics Agency, Suyodi Aryo Seto, proposed banning e-cigarettes as part of a drug law bill. He explained that Indonesia is facing a widespread phenomenon of drug use in the form of e-cigarettes, noting that countries in the ASEAN region such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore have taken similar steps to ban these products.
Laboratory test results conducted by the National Narcotics Agency on 341 samples of e-cigarette liquids revealed the presence of hazardous substances, with 11 samples containing synthetic cannabinoid compounds, one sample containing methamphetamine, and 23 samples containing etomidate, a type of drug.
