The Indonesian Ministry of Transition (Kementrans) has announced the opening of registration for the Team Expedition Patriot (TEP) 2026 program, which runs from May 1 to May 21. This program targets university graduates from across Indonesia and aims to conduct research and support communities in 53 transitional areas.
Minister of Transition, M. Iftikhar Sulayman Surianakra, confirmed that this year's program focuses on achieving tangible results that enhance the living standards of communities in transitional areas, rather than concentrating on studying economic potentials as was the case in previous years.
Event Details
The minister explained that the program will witness a shift in focus, reducing the number of participating transitional areas from 154 last year to 53 this year. These areas include nationally prioritized transitional regions in several provinces such as Aceh, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and West Kalimantan.
He also noted that the program is open to diploma (D4) graduates and other degree holders, including bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, from all Indonesian universities. However, participants must register through one of the ten partner universities involved in the program.
Background & Context
The Team Expedition Patriot program was established as part of the Indonesian government's efforts to improve living conditions in transitional areas. These regions often suffer from a lack of basic services and economic opportunities, necessitating effective interventions from educated youth.
The program is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable development in Indonesia, as the government seeks to achieve inclusive and equitable development across the country, especially in remote areas.
Impact & Consequences
The program is expected to contribute to improving living standards in transitional areas by providing direct support to communities. It also enhances the role of youth in development, contributing to the creation of a new generation of local leaders.
This initiative is also an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between universities and local communities, which contributes to achieving national sustainable development goals.
Regional Significance
Indonesia's experience with this program could serve as a model for Arab countries facing similar challenges in remote areas. Enhancing the role of youth in local development can improve living conditions and promote social stability.
In conclusion, the Team Expedition Patriot 2026 program represents an important step towards achieving sustainable development in Indonesia and reflects the government's commitment to improving the lives of citizens in transitional areas.
