According to statements from the Gua Musang police chief, Superintendent Sik Chun Foo, the incident occurred at around 7:30 PM as the group was traversing the Sungai Petich area in darkness. It is believed that the victim slipped and fell into the river, leading to her drowning.

Following the incident, the group initiated an immediate search, but the victim was not found that night. On the morning of May 3, her body was discovered approximately 300 meters from the accident site, unconscious and believed to be deceased.

Rescue teams from the Fire and Rescue Department were called to recover the woman's body, which required them to travel by four-wheel drive vehicles for four hours, followed by about 10 hours of hiking to reach the site.
