As the new year begins, Iranians celebrate Nowruz under a complex reality characterized by feelings of mourning and fear. Many live under the weight of bombing, repression, and deteriorating economic conditions, which impact the community's mood and ability to celebrate.
The country is experiencing a state of anxiety and sadness, as some traditional celebrations have turned into occasions for remembrance and mourning instead of the usual joy. Residents feel the effects of daily security and economic pressures, and concerns about personal safety and the future are growing.
Despite this, a significant number of Iranians cling to the ancient Nowruz rituals as a symbol of continuity and hope. Practices such as family gatherings, visits, and the welcoming of spring continue, even if the celebrations appear less joyful this year.
