The West Aceh government, through the Population and Civil Registration Office, has announced the provision of new facilities for citizens who lost their personal documents due to the hydrometeorological disasters that struck the region in 2025. This initiative aims to expedite the recovery process of lost documents and alleviate the burdens on affected individuals.
In a statement to Antara News Agency, the head of the Population Registration Services Department, M. Yani Ifendi, confirmed that the government will provide direct services at offices, in addition to enhancing electronic services via WhatsApp. Citizens can contact the number 0823-7008-6400 to submit their requests.
Details of the Initiative
The new procedures allow citizens to send the required data via WhatsApp, where they can submit a letter explaining the loss of the document along with a picture of the lost document. After processing the request, the recovered documents will be sent in the form of PDF files, enabling citizens to print them anywhere.
Ifendi also clarified that if citizens visit the offices without submitting a loss letter, employees will verify their data to ensure they are affected by the disaster, facilitating the reissuance of documents without complicated procedures.
Background & Context
West Aceh is considered one of the regions that has experienced several natural disasters, including floods and landslides, significantly impacting the lives of its residents. In recent years, the government has made considerable efforts to improve infrastructure and public services, particularly following the disasters that have affected the area.
Historically, Aceh has suffered from the impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis, making it a disaster-sensitive region. Therefore, providing quick and effective services to citizens is essential to ensure their stability and return to normal life.
Impact & Consequences
This initiative contributes to enhancing citizens' trust in the government, as they feel there is genuine concern for their problems and needs. It also reflects the government's commitment to improving public services and facilitating administrative procedures, especially during crises.
This step is expected to help reduce the pressure on government offices, as citizens can recover their documents more easily, contributing to a faster recovery process after disasters.
Regional Significance
The experience of West Aceh serves as a model for Arab countries facing similar challenges due to natural disasters. Providing quick and effective services to citizens can have a positive impact on community stability and enhance governments' ability to handle crises.
In light of increasing climate changes, Arab countries should learn from these experiences and develop effective strategies to deal with natural disasters, ensuring the protection of citizens and providing the necessary support.
