The exchange of strikes between Russia and Ukraine has resumed, with casualties reported from both sides on Saturday, coinciding with the resumption of talks between American and Ukrainian negotiators in Miami, aimed at refocusing on ending the ongoing war that has lasted for several months.
Reports indicated four deaths in Ukraine due to Russian attacks, severely affecting the Chernihiv region which saw significant power outages. The situation was no better in the city of Zaporizhzhia, where strikes resulted in two deaths and six injuries, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. In the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk province, two deaths and five injuries were reported due to shelling.
On the other side, the governor of the Russian Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced two deaths and one injury as a result of Ukrainian shelling in the area.
These attacks occurred while Ukrainian and US representatives gathered to discuss ways to end the conflict. The US delegation includes special envoy Steve Whitkoff and former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. At the conclusion of the sessions, Whitkoff described the talks as “constructive,” expressing hope for progress toward a comprehensive peace agreement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of these talks for the world, confirming that discussions would continue on Sunday. He pointed out that the fundamental issue is Russia's willingness to engage in dialogue and reach a genuine end to the war, a matter that has become more critical amid increasing geopolitical tensions in the region, especially in light of tensions within the region.
Despite Trump's earlier statements about the possibility of rapidly ending the war, he appears to have lost interest in the Ukrainian conflict, which has seen previous talks fail to achieve any ceasefire. The strategies of the previous administration raised allegations of biases favoring Russia, particularly after suggestions that Ukraine should cede lands still under its control.
On the other hand, Zelensky aims to ensure the continuation of trilateral talks with Russia and to allow Ukraine's European partners to continue purchasing American weapons to support war efforts. However, Russia seeks to gain as much ground as possible to bolster its position in any future negotiations, benefiting at the same time from rising oil and gas prices due to the conflict, especially after allowing countries to purchase Russian fuel.
Amid these developments, Ukraine is still awaiting a €90 billion support package from the European Union, which has been stalled due to the refusal of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The humanitarian dimensions of the crisis continue to escalate, with civilians in both countries living in tragic conditions, compounded by rising poverty and disruptions in essential services. Meanwhile, the debate intensifies regarding the war's implications at the political level in Europe and beyond, as countries struggle to adjust their positions toward Russia.
The ongoing tensions between Moscow and Kyiv not only overshadow other conflicts but also make it difficult to achieve stability across the entire region, including the Arab East, which suffers from similar problems threatening its security and stability.

Any escalation in the conflict could negatively impact food and trade prices, as well as threaten global energy flows, compelling Arab states to reassess their policies and approaches to the turbulent crises in the region.
